MARIO CASTELNUOVO-TEDESCO arr. Adrian Williams: FIGARO-PARAPHRASE (1945, arr. AW 2002) for violin and string orchestra
Commissioned by the Nieuw Sinfonietta Amsterdam jointly with the Hämeenlinna City Orchestra in Finland for Russian violinist Ilya Grubert. This work, based on the famous aria from the Rossini's The Barber of Seville was originally with piano accompaniment. The piano part is fairly tricky and 20thC in feel, so the string parts of Williams's arrangement aren't so easy either! But it's a rarity and is worth programming for the novelty.
First performed in Finland in 2002 and twice in April 2003 in Amsterdam. DURATION 7'
Score and material vailable from the composer.
