HORSEMAN, PASS BY for piano (1980)
Written in Ireland in the summer of 1980, this piece was a reaction to the landscape and atmosphere of western Ireland. The title is taken from the epitaph on the grave of poet W.B.Yeats in Drumcliffe churchyard. "Cast a cold eye on life, on death. Horseman, Pass by".
First performed by the composer at the Wigmore Hall, London in June 1982. Subsequent excellent performances by Vanya Elias-Jose and Anna Markland among others.
