TINUVIEL'S DANCE for viola and piano (1986)
A kind of symphonic poem (as yet unorchestrated!) based on the legend of Beren and the elf-maiden Tinuviel which is told in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
Ferociously difficult - but rewarding. The principal viola melody depicting Tinuviel has a distinct Celtic feel to it. The work was first performed by Richard
Crabtree accompanied by the composer at St George's Brandon Hill, Bristol in November 1989.
