TOCCATA, ROMANCE AND MINIATURE VARIATIONS for viola and piano (1988)
These pieces were written in a week following a challenge from a dodgy record company to write concert pieces for viola which would then be published and released on a commercial disc. Needless to say that neither of those things were forthcoming, but the pieces remain. They were first performed at St George's Brandon Hill, Bristol in 1989 by Richard Crabtree accompanied by the composer. Later the composer orchestrated them as the CONCERTINO for viola and strings (see orchestral list) The pieces make excellent concert works which are appreciated by audiences and have been performed many times.
